Eleutherococcus senticosus, Siberian Ginseng

$25.00

Eleutherococcus senticosus, Siberian Ginseng, Eleuthero.

Live, Spiny type plant in 4 inch pot. Grown from seed. Package will contain planting instructions.

Eleuthero is a spiny, perennial shrub that is hardy to Zone 3-7. It grows 10-15 feet high. It grows naturally in wet soil at the forest's edge. In June, it produces self fertile flowers that are greenish-white. In October, you will have black drupes. The root is harvested in the autumn of the 3rd to 5th year. You can harvest a side rhizome and leave the mother root to grow undisturbed.

It is native to eastern Russia, China, Korea and Japan. The exact origin of Eleuthero is unclear but there is some evidence that is was being used in 11th century China. Russia began using it in the 1960's and 70's as a substitute for Panax ginseng.
